SEO and AEO: build evidence customers can use

Turn broad visibility ambitions into a practical page improvement plan. Explain your offer, support important claims and give readers a clear path to a useful decision.

Give every important page a decision to support

Pick a page and complete this sentence: “After reading this, the visitor should be able to decide whether…” The ending might concern service fit, eligibility, product compatibility or the best next question to ask. If the page has no clear decision, additional keywords may only make it longer.

Consider a bookkeeping firm serving independent fitness studios. Its main page should help an owner understand whether the service handles membership income, contractor payments and the systems already in use. A generic claim about financial peace of mind does not answer those operational questions. Specificity creates a useful brief for the next edit.

Separate claims from supporting material

Build a two-column inventory. Put the page’s promises on the left and the supporting material on the right. Support might include a documented process, a named qualification, a dated example or a clear description of the deliverable. If the right column is empty, either provide evidence or narrow the claim.

Do not manufacture a case study to fill a gap. A hypothetical example can teach the process when it is labeled as such. A real result needs an accurate basis, relevant context and permission where required. Visitors should be able to distinguish demonstrated experience from an illustration of how the service works.

Keep technical foundations in proportion

Google says its existing SEO foundations remain relevant to AI search features; it does not require a special AI schema or text file. That is a useful guardrail when deciding where to spend effort.

For the bookkeeping page, first make sure people can reach the offer through navigation and understand the text. Then evaluate whether supporting pages answer genuine follow-up questions. A decorative “AI ready” badge does little to explain the business. A well-maintained answer about setup requirements, pricing assumptions and data access gives both readers and your own team something concrete to work with.

Build useful relationships around real work

Choose a small number of organizations that already serve your audience. A studio-management consultant, local business association or relevant software educator might value a practical workshop or a jointly developed checklist. Make the contribution worthwhile even if it produces no backlink.

Document what you contributed and where the result appears. Do not confuse a paid placement, a self-published directory listing and an independent editorial recommendation. They represent different kinds of evidence. The aim is a credible body of work people can inspect, rather than a large number of mentions that repeat the same unsupported promise.

Measure the customer consequence

Choose a primary outcome for the page, such as qualified enquiries from studio owners. Track a small set of supporting measures: visits, enquiry completion and the reasons prospects say the offer fits or does not fit. Use sampled AI observations as a separate learning activity with a recorded method.

Review one month of changes alongside the business context. A seasonal campaign, a referral partner or a pricing update can affect results. Keep a change log and resist assigning every movement to AEO. The useful question is which evidence and explanations help suitable customers progress with fewer unanswered questions.

Put it to work

  1. Name the customer decision each page supports.
  2. Connect significant claims to real evidence.
  3. Label hypothetical examples and actual results accurately.
  4. Prioritize relevant partnerships over mention counts.
  5. Measure qualified next steps alongside visibility.
